A New State of Mind:
Ending the Stigma of Mental Illness
Created by KVIE-TV,
Sacramento’s public television station.
Narrated by award-winning actress and mental health advocate Glenn Close

One in four American adults are living with a diagnosable mental illness in a given year, but many of them are afraid to reach out for the help they need. “A New State of Mind” features just a few of the millions of individuals who are refusing to stay silent while untreated mental illness takes an unnecessary toll on our families and communities. Their stories of hope, resilience and recovery will change the way you think about mental illness.

Beverly J Patchett receives 2015 ATHENA Award®

Nominees were honored by community and business leaders as the 2015 ATHENA Leadership Award® recipient is announced.  The Business Women’s Network and the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce presented the 2015 Athena Award to Beverly J. Patchett on September 16, 2015 at Club Venetian in Madison Heights. The ATHENA Leadership Award® is an international award presented by local Chambers of Commerce to a woman -or man- who is honored for professional excellence, community service and for actively assisting women in their attainment of professional excellence and leadership skills.

A note from BJ Patchett….

It is my hope that this award will inspire others to contribute time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in their communities and actively assist others, particularly women, in realizing their full leadership potential. Providing an environment where women’s accomplishments and contributions are valued will help to clearly define role models for others to emulate. I’ve always felt that success is not a goal to attain but rather a way of life. Today I firmly believe we will best serve our communities if we continue to create leadership opportunities for women and encourage the empowerment of women leaders.

I salute my fellow nominees for the personal and professional support they have provided to our community

Empowerment Professionals Announces
Private Practice Incubator Program

Shortly after opening the doors at Empowerment Professionals I was well aware of the need as a solo practitioner to have interaction with other mental health professionals in the community at which time I founded the Oakland County Private Practice Network and Support Group (OCPPNS). Difficulties during early startup of my practice lead me to write Solo Private Practice: A Step by Step Guide to Opening a Private Practice, Self-Published 2004, Royal Oak, Michigan with a revised edition released in 2006. A seminar called How to Start Your Own Private Practice was developed during 2004, shortly after authoring Solo Private Practice, and a new outreach was born. Working with our Private Practice group members, those attending our Private Practice seminars, and others calling for assistance it became apparent once again that many mental health and substance abuse professionals have interest in starting a private practice, but do not understand the many processes that are required to start up and succeed at their new endeavor. With that in mind during 2015 I expanded my outreach to include hands on support and guidance with an innovative approach to obtaining the necessary skills to succeed by adding a Private Practice Incubator Program. Please see our “Services Page” for details.

Empowerment Professionals is proud to announce the startup of our Private Practice Incubator Program. Under the guidelines for this new outreach individuals attending our “How to Start a Private Practice” seminar may be considered for participation. Each year a participant will be selected as an unpaid intern, under contract, for one year. At the end of their contract year they will have the opportunity to move on to their own practice and a new intern will be considered. During their time at Empowerment Professionals interns will have an opportunity to learn clinical best practice methods along with effective networking and advertising. By the end of the year they should have a strong presence in the community which will help them build a stronger foundation for their new practice and a skill set that compliments and supports a healthy community.

Individuals interested in this program may contact Empowerment Professionals and request a copy of our guidelines for participation.
